Huge Marijuana Plantation Destroyed at Soufriere

On Thursday the 11th of August, 2011, a combined unit of police officers conducted an operation on five plantations, in the hills at Fond St.Jacques, Soufriere, where a quantity of eighteen thousand, eight hundred and sixty-eight (18,868) grown marijuana plants and fifteen thousand (15000) seedlings were destroyed. No one was arrested during the exercise.
Meanwhile, Vieux-Fort Drug Unit executed a Search Warrant on the premises of 21-year-old, Kizito Baptiste of Anse-Ger, Micoud, where a quantity of one and quarter pounds of cocaine was found. He along with two other occupants of the house were arrested and subsequently charged for possession of controlled drugs and possession with intent to supply. They are: 47-year-old, Charles Baptiste Willie who is the father of Kizito Baptiste and Kizito’s brother, 18-year-old, Kenny Baptiste.
They all appeared in court on Thursday the 11th of August, 2011, where Kizito Baptiste pleaded guilty to the charges. In relation to the charge of possession of controlled drugs, he was fined the sum of $4000.00EC of which $2200.00EC to be paid forthwith or in default six months imprisonment. The balance of $1800.00EC is to be paid by the 7th of October, 2011 or in default three months imprisonment. Police withdrew the charge of possession with intent to supply against him. The cases were also withdrawn against his father and brother.
