Customs Officer Charged for Deception
Richfond police have charged a Customs Officer, 28-year-old, Joel Philgence of Barre St.Joseph, quarter of Castries, for the offence of obtaining property by deception. He appeared in court on Wednesday the 31st of August, 2011, where he was granted bail in the sum of $1000.00EC, suitable surety. The case was adjourned to the 12th of September, 2011.
The incident occurred between 10:00am and 9:00pm on Wednesday the 10th of August, 2011, when Philgence, in his capacity as a Customs Officer, visited the residence of Trevor Evans of Austin Hill, Deniere Riviere, Dennery and reportedly inform him of his failure to possess the necessary customs documents with reference to his motor cycle. Reports further indicate that Philgence allegedly obtained a sum of money from Evans as an alternative to the confiscation of the motor cycle.
An investigation was consequently conducted which lead to Joel Philgence surrendering to police who formerly charged him for the aforementioned offence.
