A Marisule man charged for firearm and ammunition
On Tuesday 30th October 2012, about 1:40pm, Officers of the Traffic Enforcement Team while on mobile patrol on the Bexon Highway. Based on information they intercepted a yellow Chevrolet Spark motor car registration number PG 9066 at the Deglos Junction.
A search was conducted on that vehicle as well as its occupants. They were twenty (20) year old Kendal Phillip of Grande Riviere, Gros Islet, twenty two (22) year old Sherwin Jn Baptiste of Marisule, Gros Islet and Twenty eight (28) year old Donavan Joseph of Grande Rivere who was the driver.
During the search, the Officers recovered a 9mm Pistol and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The said individuals were subsequently arrested and charged for the offences of Possession of an Illegal firearm and Possession of Ammunition.
On Wednesday 31st October 2012, the said individuals appeared before the court. Sherwin Jn Baptiste pleaded guilty on both charges. He was fined Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) to be paid forthwith on Possession of Firearm or in default five years imprisonment. He was also fined Seventeen Thousand Dollars ($17,000.00) on Possession of Ammunition. He was ordered to pay the full amount before December 30, 2012 or in default seven years imprisonment.
The charges against Donavan Joseph and Kendal Phillip were withdrawn.
