On Thursday 16 May 2013 about 1:45pm, local police authorities acting on information received, alerted the Marine Police who intercepted a pirogue two miles west of the Castries Harbor within the territorial waters of Saint Lucia.
This vessel was identified by the markings “Provider” and bore the registration number J7-065-STE. At the time of the intercept, there were two male occupants on board the said vessel. They were later identified as Dominican Nationals.
Also on that vessel were a number of polythene bags. Under police escort the vessel was moored to the Marine base where a thorough search was conducted.
There were 14 polythene bags in total, each containing dry green plant materials suspected to be Cannabis. The bags had an accumulative weight of 411lbs or 186.43 kilos.
Both individuals were detained in police custody and were later charged for the offences of Possession of a Controlled Drug, Possession with the Intent to Supply a Controlled Drug and Importation of a Controlled Drug.
The individuals namely Germaine Lamothe, a 46 year old of Portsmouth, Dominica and Zuff Joel William, a 27 year old from Bathroad, Portsmouth Dominica will make a subsequent court appearance
